Ted Atkinson RE FRBS (1929-2016) Sculptor, Etcher and Teacher. Born Liverpool. He studied Liverpool College of Art, 1944-48, under Karel Vogel, then at Slade School of Fine Art, 1950-54, with Reg Butler and Henry Moore. He taught at Exeter and Leeds Colleges of Art, then was Head of Sculpture at Coventry Polytechnic, 1968-1983. Atkinson concentrated on sculpture commissions and Major Public Sculptures were completed in Birmingham, Coventry, Düsseldorf and Hamburg. Atkinson was a Member of RE and a Fellow of the RBS and RE. He exhibited regularly Group Shows included RA, RWA and LG. He was one of 6 Artists representing Britain at World Expo '88. He won the etching prize at RA Summer Exhibition in 1988. In 1996, Ted Atkinson Etchings was published with an introduction by Dr Gottfried Mann in German and English. His work is held in Public Collections including Ashmolean Museum, Oxford and Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge.Lived in Wivenhoe, Essex.
(Social Realism. Kitchen Sink. Ted Atkinson was brought up in Liverpool and attended Art School there 1944-1948- he then went to the Slade- I am sure the subject matter is Liverpool but there is the possibility it could be London or elsewhere)
